Interstellar (2014) | Review

"We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars, now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt."

🛰️ The Vitals

  • Director: Christopher Nolan
  • Genre: Sci-Fi / Existential Crisis / "Where did my weekend go?"
  • My Rating: 10/10
  • Rewatchability: Very High

🌌 The Premise

A desperate last attempt to save humanity from extinction. Cooper is recruited to lead a team through a wormhole to find a new habitable planet.

🛠️ The Technical Flex

The rendering of Gargantua. It is still the 'Gold Standard' for scientifically accurate black holes. Christopher Nolan partnered with nobel-prize winning scientist Kip Thorne to calculate the theroetical equations for this black hole. The process of rendering this generated over 800TB of data with some singular frames taking hundereds of hours to render.

⏳ The Existential Dread Factor

The mission in itself was very isolating. The predecessors on the Lazarus Missions (a series of 12 one-way missions to evaluate habitable planets) were followed by the new team about a decade later (the Endurance) to scout out these planets.

🎹 The Zimmer Wall of Sound

This soundtrack may not sound like much, but wow. It's a very fitting soundtrack for this movie. I'm sure it's on YouTube or something.

💬 The "Love" Debate

"Love is the only thing that trancends time and space" What do you think? Let me know

🏁 The Final Verdict

I think this is a 10/10 masterpiece. That's open for debate over on the Discord and the Google Form

Top 3 Scenes:

  1. Docking on the Endurance while spinning at 68rpm. "It's not possible, it's necessary"
  2. Miller's planet. "Those aren't mountains.. they're waves"
  3. Cooper leaving home whilst the T-minus countdown is well... counting down.
